Take a look at your own website, are you even using keywords? Do you know what a keyword is let alone a negative keyword? I can tell you so many sites out there don't use keywords at all, how amazing is that!
If you are a customer at the very beginning of a search for something on Google, you tend to use very generic keywords for your search. For instance, If I was searching for a Motel in Taupo, I would probably enter "motel Taupo". How many do you think would come up? 37,500 come up, that's a lot of motels to sift through to find one where I want to be.
So how can you be more precise?
If I want to be water front, I would change my search to "motel Taupo water front" and the choice is narrowed down to 8380. Still a lot to choose from. I would probably do some further research until I find somewhere that looks reasonable and fits my requirements.
What I am saying is, you don't want to be part of the original 37,500, somewhere on page 20 because no one is going to bother sifting through. That is why is it SO important to use the best and correct keywords you possibly can.
How do you know what to use? There are tools available. Wordtracker.com will allow you a free trial to use their data for 1 whole week. You will be amazed what terms people are actually using in Google for all manner of things. I guarantee there will be some you have not even thought about to use. A word of warning though, don't get carried away. You are looking for KEYWORDS only, around 10, but they must be KEY.
More on keywords coming shortly.
